Community Savings
By the end of our financial year 2021/2022 saving groups of the Shack Dwellers Federation in all 14 regions of Namibia have saved collectively N$39 million to meet their needs for affordable land, housing, infrastructure and services - such as water and sanitation. These N$ 39 million have been saved by 956 savings groups with a total of 29,718 members (66% women).
Each saving group manages their own savings and has its own bank account. Every six months each group is visited by members of another saving group for an "audit" of their saving books. All saving groups are participating in regular saving activities which entitle their saving group to form part of the network of the Shack Dwellers Federation of Namibia. The savings also serve as a social tool to bring communities together to work together on their needs and support each other.
